I don’t want to bury the lede, so: both Donn’s Legacy and my short story, “Bad Luck Bridget,” have won Certificates of Excellence in the Cat Writers Association Communications Contest! I’m so deeply honored!
To be eligible for this annual contest, the works must be primarily focused on cats. For fiction, the cats must play a pivotal role in the story and can’t just be walk-on characters. The Cat Writers Association (CWA) awards articles, blog posts, poetry, books, stories, and more for excellence in writing and furthering the organization’s goal: “to improve the quality of cat information for the general public and to inspire, educate, and inform.”
If you’ve read my work, you know that cats are often critical characters. In Donn’s Legacy, Striker the tortoiseshell cat once again proves crucial to Mac’s ability to solve the case. In “Bad Luck Bridget,” a black cat plays an important role in helping the main character, Bridget, reach her goal.
These certificates also make both works eligible for the Muse Medallion, an award which recognizes the highest-scoring work in each category.
To celebrate, I’m off to eat some cake pops and snuggle my kitties!
